Well, here's a first for the JargonFreePensions sound & vision page – we've got a three-way interview between yours truly, radio host Stephen Ballard and Nigel Waterson MP, the Conservative Shadow Pension Minister.
In this first of a new series of Retirement Radio podcasts we examine the challenges that lie ahead of providing workplace pensions for millions of employees. According to Nigel Waterson the acid test for the government's plans to increase workplace pension provision is not whether the number of savers increases, but whether the overall level of savings increases.
That, as you'll know by now, isn't a million miles from what we think, but there are big obstacles ahead. Particularly how the next government will tackle the long-standing issue of means tested benefits for the elderly devaluating private savings. As you would expect we've got some ideas on how that can be tackled and in this discussion we explore those and other options with the Shadow Minister.
Retirement Radio, which has been possible through tie-up with our friends at Citywire, is designed to be accessible to all. It will provide general discussions in plain English on the important pension topics of the day so that anyone and everyone can appreciate what's going on in the seemingly hopelessly complex world of pensions.
